Caring and Educating:

The Basis for Harmonious Development

In the first years of life, the relationship between caring and educating is inseparable. In a day care or kindergarten, every gesture of care – from feeding, changing a nappy or rocking to sleep – is also an opportunity to learn and build a bond. A sensitive and attentive welcome conveys security, allowing the child to explore the world with confidence. Therefore, even before developing academic skills, it is essential that children feel safe and valued so that they can learn and grow in a balanced way.

Child development research has shown that a strong emotional bond with carers enhances children’s cognitive and social development. When they feel emotionally secure, children are more inclined to experiment, communicate and interact with their surroundings. The adult’s role is therefore not limited to imparting knowledge, but also includes creating an affective environment where empathy and active listening are fundamental. The simple act of responding attentively to the child’s needs contributes to building their self-esteem and autonomy.

The lap, often seen only as a momentary comfort, has a profound impact on a child’s emotional development. Studies show that physical contact (such as a hug or a lap) regulates stress, strengthens the relationship between adult and child and favours the capacity for emotional self-regulation. Empathetic acceptance allows children to learn to deal with their emotions and develop healthy relationships throughout their lives.

In the Pumpkins room, we place great value on the affectionate relationship between adults and children, as well as between the children themselves. We believe that a cosy and safe environment is essential for each child’s integral development.

In short, caring with affection is educating with quality, preparing each child for a secure and balanced future.
