School Library Designs New Projectsto Encourage Reading

The library at Astoria International School stands out as a dynamic space for learning and culture, playing a fundamental role in the academic and cultural development of the students. More than just a place to read, it is a place for new learning, research and the exchange of knowledge, which contributes to the formation of critical readers and citizens who are better prepared for the challenges of society.

As part of the Project Area subject, the 1st grade students in the Waterlilies class challenged the other classes in the primary school and worked together to restructure our library space.

After organizing the books and teaching materials that are part of the library, they created a project called ‘Shared’, which encourages students to exchange books with each other. In addition, another noteworthy action is the creation of the ‘Book Club’, which aims to promote fortnightly meetings for literary discussions, bringing up relevant topics and encouraging active student participation.

As teachers, we emphasise the importance of this type of initiative: ‘Our aim is to make the library a lively and inspiring environment where students can develop a love of reading and the pursuit of knowledge in a pleasurable way.’

The students at Astoria International School have shown a lot of enthusiasm for this project, and the hope is that this work will expand the role of our school library, making it an even more relevant space within the school community.
